Mgahinga is Uganda's smallest national park, but it stands tall. Three volcanoes, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabinyo, rise from the same chain that continues into Rwanda and Congo, and the air carries the cool, damp smell of bamboo and moss.
The gorillas here belong to a landscape without borders. They roam across the wider volcano range, so sightings are not always guaranteed, and the park or your operator can tell you where the family has been spending its time. When you do find them, the setting is unlike anywhere else: bamboo, lichen, and a gorilla family moving through the mist.
There is more to Mgahinga than gorillas. Golden monkeys play in the bamboo, volcano hikes reward you with crater views, and the Batwa, the forest's first people, share their history and culture through community experiences.
Getting there

Local tip Ask the park before you book where the gorilla family has been recently, and pair your trek with a golden monkey visit or a volcano hike so your trip does not depend on one sighting.
